Notecard Confessions
For my Notecard confession, I told the story of Frederick Douglass's escape from slavery. He was a slave for a big part of his life and courageously/bravely decided he wanted to be free and set out to do so. After doing so, he advocated for free rights and to abolish slavery for the rest of his life. If you would like to learn more about this incredible man, you can click here. I chose this topic because it showed the emotional/physical struggle that a man had to go through to be free. This could definitely be used in the classroom when talking about this subject. It's a powerful and emotional way to teach kids about what slaves went through. It also can give a lot of historical context as well.
Overall, I think using Notecard confessions is very effective and can stick with the students because of the emotional aspect of them. In order to create my video shown below I wrote out the story on a piece of paper and then broke it up and wrote it on notecards. Then, I filmed myself using my camera on my iPad. I then used iMovie (click here for the link) to add music to the background. I then saved it to my photos and uploaded via YouTube. It was quick and simple and I will look into using it more often!
